*This is partially based off my notes from last week’s sermon.

Did you ever think about the order in which everything was created?  Well guess what? Humans were created last of all… So we have nothing to do with creation. We didn’t help God out at all. And he didn’t need our help. This should make us say, “Look at God! Look what he has done!” Through all our lives we have done nothing. Nothing. God made us and God saved us. He is the giver of all gifts.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

                                                                                                                                                 Genesis 1:1-5

In the beginning of the creation account as he is making light out of darkness and land out of nothing we may feel like he is too big and involved in other stuff to worry about our problems. But he is our personal God, who loves us. Cares for us. He makes promises and he fulfills them.

So what did God give Adam? He gave him a place. He didn’t just throw him in a desert place. He physically placed him there in the garden. God has placed you where you are for his purpose…  He has us where we are for his purpose. God has planted us here. And we need to be content and satisfied. Rest in the place God has given to you. He has put you there for a reason. Look to him and trust him that he knows what he’s doing.

  • God gave them provision… God has given us so much. We need to be rejoicing in what he has given us. God knows our needs… do not worry. We need to stop complaining. We are always worried about the food we don’t like. How about we try being thankful… we have food. Some people don’t have any.  We need to be thankful for the things God has given us. Are you thankful for what God has given to you?
  • God gives us a purpose… He gave Adam a job to keep the garden. What has he called you to do? We may grumble but it was given to us from God. We need to joyfully do our work. God has not left you without the tools you need. If you weren’t prepared to do it he wouldn’t have called you to do it. Some are called to ministry and some not. Everyone is called to something different.
  • God gave people…  God saw that Adam wasn’t all together. So he gave him Eve. I believe what the Bible says about marriage. One man one women. Not what the world says.  Men are called to lead. Women to help. God has given us people in this place. Are we thankful for the people here? We forget that God has put us here. We need to be people that love each other.
  • God gave Adam a plan to prosper. Our plan for success is the Bible. The Bible is not there to limit what we can do it’s there for us to enjoy and find comfort in.

When we understand what God has done for us there is no ground for pride any longer. He has done everything. We have done nothing. We are dirt clods. Did you ever think about that? We are nothing but dirt. If we expect people to act like dirt clods we won’t get our feelings hurt. Why are we so proud of ourselves? We are dirt… We have nothing to be proud of… except Jesus. We can be proud of him and what he has done for us! He is the Giver of all gifts.
